The Story

I crafted this lovely teal stained glass butterfly symbol of transformation using the copper foil method, and lead free silver solder. This one stands on its own little legs with the wings open and raised so it looks like it is about to take flight. I love my butterflies, one of the few critters I can get really fanciful with, and make of whatever whimsical colour I please!

This one was chosen to grace the lid of a special urn, for a special woman and the child she carried with her to rest forever at peace together. Her parents placed the urn with the stargazer lily, mom and child symbols in a warm nook as a comforting memorial of their daughter.

Dimensions and materials

The teal stained glass butterfly measures about 31/2″ x 31/2″, and the antennae are another 2″ long. I used pretty teal rippled stained glass for the wings and silver coated copper wire to add detail.

Special Features

The legs are re-positionable, so the butterfly can hold onto a pot or stake in your yard.  These lovely butterflies will also stand on their points, and can be used as a shade for a candle or night light with the antennae either wrapped around the candle, or pushing out from the shelf wall.

I make many of my butterflies out of special glass that is unique to that particular butterfly, and so occasionally I will find that the glass has been discontinued, and will look for a substitute for your approval.

This beauty can be hung like a mobile from a fan so little children can enjoy it as well as adults, or hung in a window to show off the beautiful colour in the wings.
